Kenshi Yonezu was born in 1991 in Tokushima, Japan. He is primarily a musician and writes and composes all of his songs. Before he was signed to a major lable in 2013, he also did all of the producing, mixing, and instrument performance. He is also an illustrator, and does the cover art drawings for his releases. Additionally, he used to draw and animate most of his music videos by himself.
Kenshi Yonezu credits the bands Bump of Chicken, Asian Kung Fu Generation, and Radwimps as his main influences on his music. He considers Susumu Hirasawa's work, especially the song MOTHER, to be particularly influential. Other inspirations include the Japanese authors Kenji Miyazawa and Yukio Mishima, and the illustrator Edward Gorey.
He prefers to keep his work as Hachi and his work as Kenshi Yonezu seperate, although he has recorded a self cover of Donut Hole. Additonally, his songs under Hachi can still be found on his official Youtube channel.
Kenshi Yonezu's music has been featured in anime, movies, and other media.
